Winter 2025

Already in the middle of winter. It has been mild so far with a minimum temperature of 7-8ºC.

I have a chest infection which has been a drag. The virus had been incubating during the summer. I didn’t bother to expunge it then so I am now saddled with a chesty cough. In general I feel it to have been a difficult year so far but not a bad one.

Just keeping busy with the pruning at the moment and picking the odd almond even though it is very late. The almonds I picked are mostly still good. Breaking them is tedious - nut by nut. That nut cracker from China still works very well.

The olives were good this year. Finished with them this month. I had at least 150 kg picked. All by myself in case you were wondering :). I has to donate the last lot as the queue was very long at the press and the sun was going down. At least they didn’t go to waste.

last of the green olives/ últimas azeitonas verdes,

I took the olives down the usual way on Pepe. Still have to go pick up my oil.

I pickled about 10 litres of olives. Not sure how they have turned out as yet.

Speaking of pickle, I also made some lime pickle. I flowed my dear mother’s recipe. It would have turned out really good but I used too much vinegar. The recipe said half a bottle of vinegar. I did flag it but failed as I did not take the appropriate action. I poured in half a litre of cider vinegar which was a bit too much for qauntity of limes being used.

I had some Bonnet type chillies. Proper hot heads. I use these sparingly. I am over wintering two of the plants.

The Wesco 8303 chainsaw is still doing a fantastic job. I am still on the original chain and bar. I find the chain runs a little dry so I lubricate the chain manually as well during the cutting process. I find that I use twice the about of oil that is used by the auto chain lubricating system. But it is worth it.

That's all for Now. Thank you for reading.
