Summer is drawing to an end. Only been a couple of times fishing on the Ria Formosa. I tried for mullet. No luck. I was using bread for bait. Fishing for mullet is tricky. Our dear father was convinced they are almost impossible to catch with rod and line. He didn't have the benefit of Youtube. 🙂 It can be done but needs the tide to be right, a lot of ground bait and patience. I will keep at it, time permitting.

The dogs take up a lot of my time - dog management. They are good dogs thankfully. Conan started pee marking in the house, mid summer. The horror! The smell is peculiar and I find it quite unbearable. I am trying to get him to stop. He is very intelligent and understands everything that I say to him.

Been busy picking carobs during the summer. To counter the 'scarobers' I had to scarob almost daily especially beneath the trees of my neighbour's property or we would have got next to nothing. Gone are the days when you could let the carobs drop and form a carpet beneath the trees.

We got a decent amount of carobs, surprisingly, considering it was a poor year for carobs. Unfortunately the price was 25% lower than in 2024. Just six euros for fifteen kilos (aroba). Still, it is what I signed up for.
The fruit has been terrible this year. An exception were the grapes of gluttony - varidade Italia. I got some Nashi pears as well and a few black plums.

I have managed to keep my young olive trees growing over the summer by dragging the hose pipe around on a weekly rotation. I had been hoping to sell some but it is going to be difficult now as they are deeply rooted. 3 of the 4 large olive trees have some decent olive so hopefully I will be able to get some olive oil this year. The orange trees I planted a year ago are still growing but very slowly.
No many almonds this year but I will pick what I have. And remember it is rude to call someone a mullet and it disrespects the mullet themselves which I am sure are more switched on compared to goldfish. Thanks for reading!
